The New Ford Edge
Sitting at the top of our SUV range, the Ford Edge 2019 has received an update that makes it bolder and more intelligent than ever. With refinements made to its exterior and systems, it offers an enhanced driving experience every time. Choose from three trim levels: Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale.
The new Edge has noticeably changed from the outgoing model: the grille now sits completely separate from the headlamps, which have been re-shaped and incorporate new LED daytime running lights. Below the grille, the splitter and air intakes have also been revised, providing a sleeker and more dynamic aesthetic. The Edge’s profile takes on a more streamlined look thanks to the new rear sculpting, and the full-width light strip across the boot has been replaced by distinctive taillights and vertical LED strips above the bumper. There are five alloy wheel choices and four new paint colours to explore too.
The new Ford Edge retains its selection of diesel engine options, but there’s now a two-wheel drive variant on the 2.0-litre, 148bhp EcoBlue unit, enabling those who stay primarily on-road to maximise fuel economy. This is teamed with an eight-speed automatic gearbox for smooth power delivery as you accelerate. The pre-existing engines have had a power boost, with the 178bhp option increasing to 187bhp and the 207bhp version now delivering 237bhp and 500Nm of torque. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is available on both to optimise your drive for the conditions.
In terms of the ride, the Edge provides the same responsive steering that Ford SUV drivers have come to expect, as well as plenty of comfort thanks to the finely-tuned chassis. At high speeds you’ll enjoy a calm, quiet experience too, with wind and road noise being dampened effectively.
Ford has rearranged things inside the new Edge to make room for a little extra technology. A rotary gearshift has made way for a wireless smartphone charger, while the instrument cluster is now fully digital and can be configured to display the information most important to you. The Ford SYNC 3 system remains, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to allow you to access apps and music on your phone.
The new Ford Edge offers a comprehensive range of camera- and sensor-based driver assistance technologies designed to make journeys more comfortable and less stressful, and to help drivers avoid or mitigate the effects of collisions; including for the first time - Post-Collision Braking, Evasive Steering Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centring Assist.
The new Edge also debuts a new powerful and fuel-efficient bi-turbo variant of Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, combined with a new eight-speed automatic transmission for effortless cruising.Unveiled in sporty ST-Line specification, the new Edge makes a statement with enhanced front and rear styling, a wide mesh grille, colour-coded body including deep side skirts, and standard 20-inch aluminium wheels.Series will consist of a Titanium 150PS FWD along with ST-Line and Vignale 238PS AWD versions.
